Midwifery Model of Care

Educational Purpose & Scope of Practice

The educational pages and recommendations provided by our midwifery practice are intended for general educational purposes only and reflect the midwifery model of care.

Our recommendations may include traditional, holistic, nutritional, and non-pharmacologic approaches that have been:

  • Taught in midwifery textbooks and formal midwifery education programs

  • Passed down through generations of midwives and traditional birth workers

  • Shared through professional midwifery experience and collective clinical knowledge

These approaches are part of new research and longstanding midwifery traditions and are not intended to replace individualized medical care, diagnosis, or treatment.

Professional Role & Limitations

Midwives are not medical doctors, and we do not provide medical diagnosis or medical treatment. We are not certified herbalists, naturopaths, homeopaths, pharmacists, or licensed nutritionists.

Any information shared regarding herbs, supplements, nutrition, comfort measures, or traditional remedies:

  • Is offered within the scope of midwifery education and experiential knowledge

  • Is not a prescription or medical directive

  • Should not be interpreted as a guarantee of outcome

Client Responsibility & Informed Decision-Making

Clients are encouraged to:

  • Ask questions

  • Conduct their own research

  • Discuss recommendations with other qualified healthcare providers when desired

  • Make informed decisions that align with their personal values, health history, and comfort level

By choosing to engage with this educational material, clients acknowledge that individual responses vary, and that responsibility for health decisions ultimately rests with the client.

Individualized Care & Clinical Judgment

Midwifery care is individualized. Not all recommendations are appropriate for every person or every pregnancy. Some approaches may be contraindicated based on medical history, pregnancy risk factors, or evolving clinical circumstances.

Clients should promptly inform their midwife of:

  • Any adverse reactions

  • Changes in symptoms

  • Use of additional supplements, herbs, or therapies

Not a Substitute for Medical Care

These materials are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease and should not be used as a substitute for medical evaluation, emergency care, or consultation with a licensed physician when indicated.
