Your Labs

As a client of DFW Community Birth & Wellness we believe that you play an integral part of your care in pregnancy. Anytime we run lab work on you we will keep you informed on why we are running those specific labs. Once those lab results come through, we will email you a copy of the lab report from the lab and the Maternity Neighborhood encounter with our interpretation of your results.

With your lab reports you will sometimes see values "out of range" in blue that are actually normal during pregnancy. If we tell you everything is okay it's because we understand how certain values can change when you are pregnant. We will always tell you if something is wrong or concerning. Often we see labs that are "borderline" and we will send you a message with things you can do to try and avoid moving to an out of normal range.

Next, on your Maternity Neighborhood encounters you will see that we have "red flagged" certain results NOT because there is something wrong, but because they are important for us to note. If you see a "caution sign" it means that value is not normal, and we will alert you to that and let you know what you need to do in response to it in the email sent with your lab results. For anything urgent the lab notifies us and we will call you.

*Please note that some labs come back within a few days and others take time (such as cultures) and may take up to a week to come back. Genetic screening can take even longer. The efficiency of the labs varies as well and it may take longer to get the results. We do not post labs over the weekend so please allow up to 7 days for your labs to be posted once we receive your results. You can always send a portal message if you are concerned you have not heard back. Your midwives are human and sometimes births can delay getting results in your chart.

We typically draw our routine labs during these appointments. If you ever want to run additional labs such as Vitamin D or Vitamin B12 just ask your midwife. We will draw other labs as needed if medically indicated.
