Will insurance cover my birth?

Understanding Insurance & Payment Options

We believe midwifery care should be accessible and personalized. Part of that is being transparent about how we handle payments.

As part of our recent transition, we are no longer in-network with any insurance companies. This decision allows us to spend more time providing individualized, high quality care to the families we serve. However, we understand when clients want to use their insurance to pay for care. Remember we are midwives not medical billers, we do not submit claims. However, we have found these resources to be helpful!

  • We do not bill insurance directly, but we are considered out-of-network providers

  • Medicaid does not cover licensed midwives in Texas

  • We do offer a medicaid discount

  • You can use your insurance (including medicaid) for labs and sono referrals. We do offer a discount when you use your insurance for labs.

  • Superbills are available upon request and can be used to submit claims to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

  • When using your insurance for reimbursement remember maternity care is billed after your final postpartum visit, as part of a bundled “Global OB package” that includes prenatal, birth, and postpartum care.

  • If you transfer out of care before your final visit, your superbill will reflect only the care you received.

  • You can check if your plan reimburses for out-of-network midwifery care, you can download this form with helpful questions to ask your insurance company.

  • There are private billing companies that can assist you such as Earthside Billing.

  • Here is one woman’s story in getting her home birth covered by her insurance company.

Other Payment Options:

  • We accept most Health Share and medical co-op programs

  • HSA/FSA cards are welcome for qualifying expenses

  • Interest-free payment plans are available through private lenders. Some have found PayPal loans a good option with zero interest for 6 months.
